About OraFID®
The OraFID® minitablet dispenser is an innovative solution that overcomes challenges of minitablet use by enabling patients and caregivers to dispense the exact number of minitablets.
The single use dispenser comes with the medicine contained inside a standard size bottle. It is ready-to-use, so no mounting or changing of lid is necessary.
As the dispenser is single use and cannot be refilled, the potential for contamination from any outside source is minimized.
The idea with minitablets is to allow for individualized dosing where each tablet contains a low dose, and the patient’s dose corresponds to a number of tablets.
By simply turning the wheel to the right number of tablets and back, the user can start the treatment with the correct number of minitablets.
Counting Accuracy
The OraFID® is optimized for use with 3 mm minitablets. Using these tablets, the accuracy of counting is extremely reliable. As the device comes prefilled with the intended minitablets, the user can be assured that the device will deliver the correct tablet and correct number of tablets.
Optimized for minitablets
The dispenser is optimized and should only be used with minitablets of 3 mm size and shape according to Sensidose specifications. Following this restriction it is ready for clinical trials or for a commercial launch. With these specifications the device will deliver the number of tablets as determined by the user.
The Advantages of Mini-Tablets
Minitablets in the size of about 3 mm have several advantages over larger, standard pills or liquid medication for oral dosing. Minitablets are ideal for pediatrics, oncology and geriatrics when patients need flexible dosing based on age, weight, body surface, swallowing difficulties and other factors such as control of side effects or wish to carefully increase or decrease the dose. As the minitablets contain a fraction of the dose in a standard tablet, dosing can be adjusted to each patient’s individual need, by adjusting number of tablets needed to achieve optimzed dosing.
However, minitablets bring their own challenge to flexible and precise dosing, requiring patients and caregivers to perform a safe and accurate dispensing, or to manually count tablets to ensure administration of correct dosages. In the case of a small number of minitablets, this is easy but with counts for a large number of minitablets, this becomes a challenge. Overcoming this challenge is especially critical in highly regulated areas of healthcare, where accurate dosages are vital to a patient’s well-being in order to balance the effect versus the potential risk. The OraFID handles this task by assuring a precise and repeatable counting accuracy.
OraFID® Setup and Use

The dispenser comes ready to use and consists of a barrel and a bottom wheel. No mounting or filling is needed. The bottom wheel has a ring with numbers from 1- 20, corresponding to the number of tablets that can be withdrawn at each single occasion. The amount of tablets should be set for each dispensing, hence the device always starts at

To dispense medication, turn the barrel counter-clockwise to the wanted number of tablets. Use a steady, slow and firm movement. Do not back-up. If needed you can stop, take a new grip on the barrel and continue, but backing is not allowed.

Once you have reached the wanted numbers, stop and turn the barrel clockwise back to , where there is a firm stop. The correct number of minitablets automatically falls into dispensing compartment.

Press the blue button on the bottom wheel to release the tablets.
